Next meetup locations are up

For San Francisco:

StudioZ.tv, 314 11th Street, San Francisco, CA
Thirsty Bear Brewing Company, 661 Howard St, San Francisco, CA
Cafe Royale, 800 Post Street, San Francisco, CA

So we've seen what StudioZ.tv has to offer. Many of us are surely familiar with Thirsty Bear. I've never been to Cafe Royale, but I found a couple reviews here and here. It sounds nice.

Thirsty Bear, while cool and all, is expensive and can be crowded, so Cafe Royale is getting my vote.

For Oakland-Alameda:

Jupiter, 2181 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley, CA
Chevy's Restaurant, 1890 Powell Street, Emeryville, CA
Pacific Coast Brewing Company, 906 Washington, Oakland, CA

Sorry, folks, no bowling alley choices in Fremont, this time. (:

For San Jose:

Blue Rock Shoot, 14523 Big Basin Way, Saratoga, CA
Round Table Pizza, 4302 Moorpark Ave., San Jose, CA
Coffee Society, 21265 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino, CA

That's near my house, and I could actually make it easily. Now I get to choose between Berkeley or Oakland and San Jose, and it might be "neither." Ah well. :)
No doubt many folks in Oakland/Berkeley/Alameda had problems with going down to Fremont for the last one, though.

The same problem exists if you live on the Peninsula, or in the North Bay.

Overall the locations in big cities are going to be more popular. It's simply a matter of population density.

I don't expect any location for any meetup to win on the Peninsula or in the North Bay. Many of the first meetups had one possible choice in the North Bay, one on the Peninsula, and one in San Francisco. The San Francisco location always won. Now most of the "San Francisco" meetups offer three choices in San Francisco itself.

Personally I'm surprised that a Fremont location ever won for anything at all.

Fremont would pull folks in from between Milpitas and San Leandro. It's not population-dense like Berkeley is, but there are still a few hundred thousand people in that area.

I guess people who intended to go to the meetup thought Fremont was okay, or it wouldn't have been chosen for the last meetup. And really cool people *did* show up at the Fremont location. It was nice. :) That said, I'd choose a different location. It was noisy there, and food and drinks were less than thrilling.
Well, what were the other choices, though? If they were, say, Concord and Dublin, then people in Oakland/Berkekey/Alameda might have voted for Fremont themselves.

While close the Bowling alley was not that greatest of venues. Loud (even with very few bowlers) and the food was not that great.

If foolks are into food while meetingup, the Chevy's in Emerryville is very good, but not public transit friendly. The view however is wonderful (its on the water.)

I've heard good things about Jupiter.

Nothing about the PCBC.
I'd have recommended a Fuddruckers if anyone was taking suggestions here.
Suggestions here won't change anything on meetup.com, but if you suggest it to them directly they might put it in for the next one.

san jose:

coffee society is ok, but well, i have reasons i don't really want to hang out there...i'd prefer orchard city in campbell, personally, but i guess it's not a choice...

i dunno about blue rock shoot, someone said it was great, i'll have to go by there and check it out maybe...

Isn't there some sort of law that says anything even remotely geekish in the South Bay has to meet at the Saratoga/Moorpark Round Table at least once? ;-)
